The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown

The Lost Symbol Ebook has been released. Get the ebook copy and start reading in minutes

The Lost Symbol is a novel written by Dan Brown and published by Doubleday. It is the sequel to his 2003 novel, The Da Vinci Code. The novel again features the fictional, mystery-solving Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon. It is set in Washington D.C., and the story takes place over a 12-hour period. The Langdon character also appeared in Brown’s 2000 novel, Angels & Demons

According to a Reuters article published July 8, 2009 :

  1. ‘Brown's U.S. editor Jason Kaufman from Knopf Doubleday, an imprint of Random House, said in a widely reported statement that the book is "largely" set in Washington but "it's a Washington few will recognize."

  2.       "As we would expect, he pulls back the veil -- revealing an unseen world of mysticism, secret societies, and hidden locations, with a stunning twist that long predates America," said Kaufman.’

Brown himself revealed in 2006 that the book's release date of September 15, 2009 would have significance. Adding the numbers 9/15/09 equals “33.”

When the hardback edition of “The Da Vinci Code” was published, Dan Brown intentionally placed clues within the cover artwork about his next novel. Brown’s books make frequent use of symbolism and secret code breaking. On the inside paper flaps of the original hardback edition, certain letters were printed darker than others. When copied down in order, they revealed a phrase of ritualistic significance specific to Freemasons. The first announced title of the book was “The Solomon Key,” and the biblical story of the building of King Solomon’s Temple in 1000 BC is central to Freemasonry’s ritual ceremonies and mythical origins.

In May of 2004, Brown made a rare speech in Concord, New Hampshire, and said his sequel to The Da Vinci Code would be about the Masons. He added that Masons should be happy because there is so much misinformation about the group.2

Once The Lost Symbol was published, speculation came to an end. Freemasonry does indeed appear throughout the book, and is central to the story. The headquarters of the Scottish Rite Southern Jurisdiction, the House of the Temple, is the setting for important (and harrowing) sequences in the story.

New Dan Brown Title Boosts Ebook Future

The electronic book reader reaches adolescence next month when Dan Brown's "The Last Symbol" will be published simultaneously in print and download format.

The release day is Sept. 15. The publisher Doubleday said the first press run is 5 million books priced at $29.95. The e-book version is considerably less; Amazon's Kindle version and the Sony Reader offering are $9.99.

How to remove unwanted Startup Programs in Windows Vista?

There is a another method to increase your Vista or Windows 7 to its loading upon at start up. By default, your installed application may load or its loaded because of pre-installed program that is created by putting an application that will load at start up or a script that will load at your start up.
And because of this you notice that at start up your computer is at low speed or make you wait for 5 minutes in order to load all programs that you have installed to your computer or without knowing that your is infected by third party program that is installed unseeingly when you are browsing to the net.
And because of this your usage of RAM is to high more than 50% percent of your memory usage, and this time you need to free some space in order to run smoothly and faster.
So to improve your start up loading, you need to remove some unwanted programs in order to increase the performance.
Here is how to removed some unwanted programs of windows vista and windows seven.

Click the Start button and Type MSCONFIG in the Search Box and hit Enter. (If you are using XP, go to RUN and type MSCONFIG)

You will get System Configuration Window. Click the Startup tab and uncheck all the programs or applications that you don’t want to automatically load every time you use your PC.

Usually, you can safely uncheck all apart from any antivirus software, applications like Windows Defender, or any applications that you would love to have every time.

After unchecking the ones that you don’t want, Click OK. In the next window, you may choose either to restart or later and the effects would take place next time you start your PC.

Next time when you start your computer you should feel the difference provided currently you had a huge list of unwanted startup items.

Free Software

Free software, software libre or libre software is software that can be used, studied, and modified without restriction, and which can be copied and redistributed in modified or unmodified form either without restriction, or with minimal restrictions only to ensure that further recipients can also do these things and that manufacturers of consumer-facing hardware allow user modifications to their hardware. Free software is generally available without charge, but can have a fee.

In practice, for software to be distributed as free software, the human-readable form of the program (the source code) must be made available to the recipient along with a notice granting the above permissions. Such a notice either is a "free software license", or a notice that the source code is released into the public domain.

Unable to download or save files using Mozilla

Clear the downloads history

Clearing the downloads history can fix some problems with downloading files:

1. On the menu bar, click Tools and then select Downloads. The Downloads window will open.
2. In the Downloads window, click Clear List.

Choose a different download folder

Firefox may not be able to download files if there is a problem with the folder in which downloaded files are saved:
  1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Tools menu, and select Options....
  2. Select General panel (Main panel in Firefox 3.5).
  3. In the Downloads section, select Save files to.
  4. To select a download location, click Browse.... Choose a different folder to try saving files.
  5. Click OK to close the Options window.

Reset the download folder

If you have tried the above suggestions, you can restore the default Firefox download folder settings:
  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter.
    • The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
  2. In the Filter field, enter browser.download.
  3. If any of the following settings have a status of user set, reset their values. To reset a value, right-click the setting and select Reset from the context menu:
    • browser.download.dir
    • browser.download.downloadDir
    • browser.download.folderList
    • browser.download.lastDir
    • browser.download.useDownloadDir
  4. If desired, you can revert back to your preferred download folder settings by changing your Firefox settings.

Enable downloads blocked by Security Zone Policy

Downloading an executable file (e.g., an .exe or .msi file) may fail, with the Downloads window showing Canceled under the file name.

This happens because Firefox honors your Windows security settings for downloading applications and other potentially unsafe files from the Internet. To resolve this problem, use one of the solutions given below.

Bypass Windows Security Policy check

(Firefox 3.5)
You can add the preference, browser.download.manager.skipWinSecurityPolicyChecks and set it to true. This will bypass the Windows Security Policy check and allow you to download executable files. To add this new preference:
  1. In the Location bar, type about:config and press Enter.
    • The about:config "This might void your warranty!" warning page may appear. Click I'll be careful, I promise!, to continue to the about:config page.
  2. Right-click anywhere in the list of preferences.
  3. In the context menu, select New then select Boolean. The "New boolean value" dialog box will appear.
  4. Enter the preference name browser.download.manager.skipWinSecurityPolicyChecks in the text field and click OK.
  5. In the "Enter boolean value" box that appears, select true and click OK
Note: This preference does not work in Firefox 3.6.

Reset system Internet Security settings

You can reset your system Internet security settings in Internet Explorer. See How to reset Internet Explorer settings at Microsoft Support for instructions.
